Gordy and Nelson were in a stupid accident and died in July, 1934. Only Nelson is free to go to a “better place”—untethered to earth and invisible to everyone—and Gordy is stuck as a ghost haunting his old, grungy apartment building in Cobble Hill Brooklyn. He doesn’t want to be a ghost and can’t figure out where his buddy is.
Over the course of eighty years, Nelson watches Gordy interact with the few kids who, for whatever reason, can see him and interact with him and help him figure out why he’s a ghost and how he can possibly free himself.
But Nelson’s “better place” is bright, fluffy and five thousand times bigger than Brooklyn so even if Gordy makes it there, finding each other could be impossible.
